As with the United Kingdom, railroad heritage is big business in North America. The National Railway Historical Society is at the forefront of this movement with the various chapters working to preserve all manner of North American railroad heritage. Along side the work of the NRHS chapters, other preservationists work closely with active US railroads to operate tourist trains. Some are “opulent splendour” whilst others are the more standard railfan excursion train. Usabyrail.co.uk intends to bring details of these North American railroad preservation operations in this section. Contributions will, as always, be very welcome and should be sent to info@usabyrail.co.uk with details of the railroad, its operations and if possible some photographs for publication on the site. As the theme of this site is “modern traction” usabyrail.co.uk intends to concentrate on diesel and electric locomotive preservation but not to the complete exclusion of steam on railroads where mixed operations occur.
