DASH9-P42B

The DASH9-P42B is now Amtrak's workhorse engine and can be found anywhere on Amtrak's system. Rated at 4250hp they are a classic heavy haul engine at home on both diesel hauled services around the North-East or on Trans Continental service.

Noted on the last visit were the following:-

On 29/04 Amtrak train 56, the northbound Vermonter, was worked north of New Haven by loco's 41 and 38 top and tailing a standard 5 coach Amfleet rake. Train 56 starts from Washington Union station at 7.30, hauled to New Haven by electric traction, and goes forward to St. Albans arriving at 20.40.



Amtrak DASH9-P42B loco 41 leaves Berlin at the head of train 56 to St. Albans. Sister loco 38 can be seen on the rear.

Similarly the southbound Vermonter, train 55 was also top and tailed by loco's 170 and 173 between St.Albans and New Haven from where AEM7 electric loco 946 went forward to Washington Union.

On 30/04 Amtrak train 283 13.45 New York Penn to Niagara Falls was worked north of Albany Rensselaer by P42B loco 101. This engine returned on 01/05 with train 286 9.00 Niagara Falls to New York Penn.

On 02/05 Amtrak trains 75 and 76 were worked by loco no. 13 from Washington Union to Newport News and return.



Amtrak DASH9-P42B loco 13 reverses out of Newport News station to perform the turning manoeuvre on the Y opposite the yard.

On 03/05 the following were noted on Amtrak's Keystone service between Philadelphia 30th Street and Harrisburg.

Train 640 5.10 Harrisburg to New York Penn was worked by loco no. 45

Train 605 6.15 Philadelphia 30th Street to Harrisburg and train 648 11.00 Harrisburg to New York Penn were worked by loco no. 47

Train 607 7.00 Philadelphia 30th Street to Harrisburg was worked by loco no. 63

Train 642 6.25 Harrisburg to New York Penn was worked by loco no. 164

Train 43 7.05 New York Penn to Pittsburg "Pennsylvanian" was worked by loco no. 140
